Reminiscing About You
— a poem by Melissa Burton

Of course it was called love.
That enduring, common danger
was mistaken for love.
The coming when we go outside.
Twisting the old bulb with
what could have been and done
instead of buying a new one.
But looking back at times
that dim light seemed to be bright.
Cheating, crash lies, sweet nothings
occasionally. Even still, for a
time, we leave the porch
light on to revisit
our hypothetical life.
