By. K
Red-lipped and caffeinated
she's mouthing
something
about
something
that's dying in
a distant culture: globalization.
Reflexive, I smile and tighten
my mouth
eyes
too,
lies
they may tell
of caring, but she needs to matter.
So my skin reflects attention
and a cause breathes
easy for
a time
in her eyes
the crowds will tire
dusk puts dust to her lips
And I sink away
hoping
she'll remember my face.
