Sleuth
— a poem by Roger Still

The government may be listening
To our conversations, they say

God bless them in their endeavors
I can barely listen to you at all

For the last time – nobody cares
About your precious enchilada recipe

Besides, I am sure the government has
Better items on the agenda:

Bombing a desert somewhere, lowering
The volume of commercials, defining and
Redefining the word filibuster, running
New campaigns and managing scandals

Figuring out if the next President will be
Republican or Democrat, although both coats
Seem to look the same, oddly identical.
