I'm Not Going Without My Face |
by Jessica Holscher

There’s this old woman at
My grandma’s nursing home
Who repeats herself
Over and over.
One time, she just kept saying,
“I love you”
To no one in particular.
I think she just wanted to
Hear someone say,
“I love you too,”
Even if they didn’t mean it,
It would remind her of what
It felt like to be loved
Wholly.
Another time, she kept repeating,
“I’m not going without my face.”
People laughed, including me,
But honesty, she’s got a point.
I’m not going without my face either.
