by Michael D. Brown, Ph.D.

E.E. Cummings
gives me my first
lower case i:
i love reading it
so small, personal,
unassuming:
so intimate a humility,
even the dust landing,
can only surround : displace
the capital, colossal,
formality of it,
as if it were insufferable,
an unlikable ego;
yet, i gets to be
in the first person,
whenever we speak
of it as things
truly ought to be.
