The Welcome Mat
when asked
when was the last time
I spoke with my daughter
I shrug and reply
we hardly speak
why not?
they always pry
because I hear it
in her voice
hear what?
the idiots ask confused
then I tell them
I hear
the meaninglessness
of my existence
in her life
besides
I’m outnumbered
wrestling enough demons
at night
and one more
might pin my weary soul
to the welcome mat of hell
