Manuel is a University of Washington student, currently studying journalism and Latin American studies. He has worked for The Seattle Times and the Skagit Valley Herald in Mount Vernon, Washington. While in Mount Vernon, he authored a series profiling an Oaxacan migrant worker community that nabbed a national first place in a student competition from the Society of Professional Journalists. The same story placed in the top-three for the state professional level. He was born in Guatemala and lived there for 11 years. He now resides in the Seattle area.
